This annual lecture honors the remarkable Ruth Hutton Fred and brings our community together around mental health, learning, and growth. This year’s program features presentations from Brooke Reichek and Tzivie Pill.
Ruth Hutton Fred led Alexander JFS for nearly four decades (1940–1977), shaping a legacy of innovation, compassion, and advocacy. A true trailblazer, she elevated mental health awareness through public education—hosting a radio show, writing the “Ask Ruth” column, and championing conversations long before they entered the mainstream.
She also served on the founding advisory board of the University of Texas School of Social Work in 1950, helping to influence the future of the profession.
Today, we continue to honor her enduring impact by fostering meaningful dialogue and offering professional development for those committed to strengthening our community.
This lecture series was established in Ruth Hutton Fred’s honor by Adele and Albert Bath after her retirement, and after her passing, our Board of Directors committed to sustaining it as a living tribute to her enduring legacy.
