Therapy and Support Groups

Our therapy and support groups offer an opportunity to share your thoughts with others and learn important coping skills.

Alexander Jewish Family Service’s structured support groups focus on providing knowledge and tools to improve your coping skills and ability to self-care. A professional facilitates as you share your thoughts with peers who have a common purpose and are likely to understand one another. Our list of therapy or support groups change as the needs in the community change, so be sure to check the schedule below for the most current groups offered.

We also provide therapy for families, couples, and individuals from age 3 and up. Commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid are accepted; financial assistance may be available.

Alexander JFS welcomes all racial, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and is a safe place for all gender expressions and sexual orientations.

Common Questions about Support Groups

What is a support group?

Support groups are designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for participants to connect, learn, comfort, support and socialize to promote our psychological health.  All support sessions are facilitated by a rotation of licensed clinicians or master’s level clinical intern students under supervision.

What is the difference between a support group and counseling?

Counseling is an individualized process in which a trained clinician collaboratively determines therapeutic goals based on the presenting needs of the individual. Support groups are peer supportive environments that are intended to provide connection and promote well-being for people with challenging life situations.

What support group should I join? How do I know if I can attend a support group?

Our support groups are organized by age, stage in life, common experience and other factors. The details of the group can be found with each group description. Take a look to see which experience you identify with and want to take part in with others.
