Disability Pride Month is observed each July to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. This landmark legislation protects people with disabilities from discrimination in employment, education, transportation, and public spaces, helping to create a more accessible and inclusive society.
Disability Pride Month is both a celebration and a call to action. It recognizes the contributions, experiences, and identities of people with disabilities while challenging stereotypes and stigma. Rather than viewing disability solely as something to be overcome, Disability Pride embraces it as a natural and valuable part of human diversity.
Every July, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of people with disabilities while reaffirming that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, valued, and included. Disability Pride Month reminds us that awareness must lead to action through greater accessibility, advocacy, and opportunities for full participation in community life.
At Alexander JFS, we are committed to empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve their goals and live as independently as they choose. Through Disability Services and Celebration Company, we provide advocacy, case management, employment opportunities, skill development, and meaningful connections that foster independence and belonging.
Each year, Celebration Company provides more than $100,000 in scholarships that help adults with disabilities access meaningful employment, build confidence, develop workplace skills, and achieve greater independence.
When we create communities where everyone belongs, everyone benefits.
