Expanded Career Support to Help You Move Forward

In 2026, the Alexander JFS Career and Employment Center is expanding its services to meet the evolving needs of our community with new programs that support job seekers at every stage of life. Whether you’re entering the workforce, navigating a career transition, or building new skills later in life, these programs are designed to remove barriers and create pathways to meaningful employment.

SNAP Employment & Training (E&T): Building Skills for Long-Term Success

If you receive SNAP benefits, you may be eligible for the SNAP Employment & Training (E&T) Program, a powerful resource that helps you meet program requirements while preparing for long-term career success.

Participants receive personalized career coaching, access to education and certification opportunities, and guided job search support. Whether you’re just getting started or ready to advance, SNAP E&T provides practical tools and one-on-one guidance to help you reach your goals.

Supporting Your Journey: Food for Change Partnership

To further support clients facing food insecurity, Alexander JFS has partnered with the Houston Food Bank’s Food for Change Program.

Eligible participants enrolled in career coaching may receive food scholarships that help reduce grocery costs allowing them to focus on building skills and pursuing employment. Participants can access groceries twice per month at Food for Change Markets across the Houston area, receiving up to 60 pounds of nutritious food per visit, including fresh produce.

Designed to feel like a grocery store or farmers market, these distributions offer choice, dignity, and convenience. Continued access to the program is tied to participation in career services, ensuring clients are supported both nutritionally and professionally.

Career Compass (Coming Soon): Empowering Adults 60+

The Career and Employment Center is also launching Career Compass, a new initiative designed specifically for adults age 60 and older.

Through this program, participants will receive specialized career coaching alongside in-person technology training in partnership with Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP. These classes focus on building confidence with digital tools, navigating online job applications, and staying competitive in today’s workforce.

Participants will also gain access to Senior Planet programming, which supports growth across key areas including financial security, social connection, health and wellness, and creative engagement.

Career Compass is designed to help older adults stay connected, build new skills, and pursue meaningful opportunities—proving that career growth has no age limit.
