Bridging the Gap: Mental Health and the Black Community

Statistically, Black Americans remain the least likely demographic to pursue mental health resources. The reasons are layered and complex: stigma, intergenerational trauma, lack of trust in the health care system, provider bias, cultural incompetence and disproportionately high rates of misdiagnoses, to name just a few.

While mental health awareness has grown significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black community continues to be underserved. As we approach meaningful holidays like Juneteenth, it becomes increasingly important to amplify the advantages of mental wellness within the Black community – and to spotlight the resources available to support it.
