JFS Play Institute is proud to be an approved continuing education provider by the Association for Play Therapy (APT). We offer high-quality play therapy training throughout the year. Our mission is to expand the reach of play therapy by equipping professionals with practical skills and foundational concepts to support the emotional well-being of children through developmentally appropriate, play therapy approaches. Our experienced Registered Play Therapist–Supervisors (RPT-S) can provide supervision toward play therapy credentialing hours.

Training Series Overview

Earn a Total of 38 CE Hours Across Key Instructional Areas

This series is designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge to effectively provide play therapy interventions for children. Those who complete the full series will meet the Phase 1 Play Therapy Instruction Requirements outlined by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) to begin the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist™.

  • 3 Hours – History of Play Therapy
  • 12 Hours – Play Therapy Skills & Methods
  • 21 Hours – Seminal or Historically Significant Play Therapy Theories
  • 2 Hours – Special Topics in Play Therapy

2025 Fall Training Dates

Registration Opens Wednesday, June 25, 2025

  • July 18, 2025- First steps into Play Therapy (2 Non-Contact hours)
  • July 25, 2025 - First stepsinto Play Therapy (2 Contact hours)
  • August 22, 2025 – Child Development & the Play Therapist’s Role (3 Contact hours)  
  • September 18 & 19, 2025-Child Centered Play Therapy: Parts 1 (6 Contact hours) and 2 (6 Contact hours)  
  • October 24, 2025- Integrating Sand Tray with Play Therapy (3 Contact hours
  • November 20 & 21, 2025 –Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy Parts 1 (6 Contact hours) and Part 2 (6 Contact hours)
  • December 12, 2025 - Grief andPlay Therapy (6 Contact hours)

All trainings offered by theJFS Play Institute series count towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT).  For more information about becoming a Registered Play Therapist please visit the Association for Play Therapy.

Common Questions about A Time for Play

Who should attend A Time for Play?

These continuing education events are open to any master’s level mental health professional. Prior knowledge of Play Therapy is helpful but not necessary to participate

Am I required to purchase a season pass?

No, you are able to register for individual sessions. Purchasing a Season Pass up-front grants participants admission to all 20 six-hour contact training classes AND eligibility to complete up to 6 homework assignments over the course of the series to earn an additional 30 hours of non-contact continuing education hours.  Those that purchase the Season Pass will also receive a binder of all course content and become eligible for up to 2 make-up assignments in case of an excused absence.  

Where do CE hours apply?

Continuing Education hours apply towards mental health licensure and apply towards acquiring or maintaining a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential.
