Today's column offers insight and advice on controlling anxiety through the vaccination process.

The pandemic has been here for a year, and vaccinations are being given every day. As days pass, you may find yourself next in line.

When it was my turn to receive the shot, I experienced symptoms of anxiety for many reasons. The main reason was this was a new event in my life, and I felt as if I did not have control over what was happening. I felt as if I had to blindly trust medical professionals without having a say in the process.

As I shared my feelings with others, I realized this was not an uncommon experience and, in fact, many people were having these same feelings. I also was reminded that we have more control over the process, and our environment, than we realize.

This article looks at ways in which we can manage our anxiety by listening to our needs, asking for help and utilizing our coping skills that we already have perfected.
