Give In Memoriam

Marcia Diamond Sherman was born on March 20, 1957, and passed away on October 10, 2025. She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, daughter of Sidney David Diamond and Sallie (Soretta Estelle Leibson) Diamond, and sister to her two brothers Andy and Steve.

In her youth, she delighted in her summers at Echo Hill Camp and a trip to Europe with her parents. Marcia graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1975 and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Red Hussars. Marcia graduated with her B.A. from University of Texas in 1979.  There she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority.  She then studied social work at the University of Arizona. She married and moved to Charleston in 1983 where she raised her family. She had two wonderful daughters, Stacey and Molly. She was very passionate about them as they were more important to her than anything else. A lifelong Longhorn fan, Marcia also loved Broadway theater and was an excellent cook. She was also a fervent supporter of the State of Israel.

Predeceased by her parents Sidney and Sallie Diamond, Marcia is survived by her daughters Stacey Sherman (Robin) and Molly Sherman, her brothers Andy Diamond (Andrea) and Stephen Diamond (Debra), several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her brother, Andy, established the Marcia Diamond Sherman Jewish Camp Fund at the Houston Jewish Family Foundation to support the giving of scholarships by Alexander Jewish Family Service for Jewish children in Houston to attend summer camp. In this way, each year they will be able to benefit from what is universally known as an exceptionally memorable and rewarding experience. Andy noted, “My sister loved her camp experiences and spoke about them her whole life. I am gratified to know that children in the future will be able to attend Jewish camps as a part of my sister’s ongoing legacy.”

Molly, Marcia’s younger daughter, shared how much she thinks her mother would have appreciated this fund. “My mother instilled in her daughters a love of the camp experience. We went to Young Judea and Tel Yehuda. I recently found a charm bracelet from Echo Hill among her things that she had kept since she was a child. That this fund has been established as a part of her ongoing legacy would have made her happy.”
