Joan and Stanford Alexander For the Good of Life Fund
Matching grant challenge to build an endowment for adults with disabilities.
Established in 2019, Joan and Stanford Alexander matched donations to this fund dollar for dollar through September 2021. Gifts in the amount of $36 to $1,000,000 have been made, building towards a multi-million fund that will sustain this nurturing employment program.
In recognition of her extraordinary leadership, this fund ensures that future leaders of Alexander JFS will be able to emulate her compassion by responding to individuals and situations that call for an extraordinary response.
Fund for Homeless Jews in the Greater Houston Area
Provides resources to stabilize those on the edge of eviction and homelessness in order to give bridge funding so the client can avoid homelessness as they assess and change their situation.
Established by Bess Wishnow as an act of gratitude for the care provided to her and her sister when under the care of the Pauline Sterne Wolff Home for Displaced Children. Helping those in the future who turn to the community for a sense of connection, support and family.
Joan and Stanford Alexander Jewish Family Service Award
Established by the Farfel family, this fund recognizes individuals or organizations which have dedicated extraordinary efforts to strengthen the social service field or to positively impact systems which effect the lives of Alexander JFS clients, locally or nationally.
Provides tangible resources for individuals, families and seniors who are experiencing significant financial stress. Financial stability case managers evaluate client situations and work with the client to stabilize their situation and teach skills for maintaining that stability.
Established by Jeri and Marc Shapiro to honor the memory of Marc’s aunt, Della Shapiro Schaeffer, a valued social worker at Alexander JFS for over 30 years. This fund provides tangible resources for individuals, families and seniors who are experiencing significant financial stress.
Established in 1992 by related families, it was one of the first funds to support Passover Assistance. As Case Management for Seniors continued to grow into a core service, the fund evolved into support for the agency’s commitment to help keep seniors independent as they age.
Provides ongoing resources for ensuring that seniors and their caregivers will have tools and resources to navigate the states of aging, with the goal of maintaining independence for as long as possible.
Established by two professionals who understand the value of early assessment for youth, this fund provides resources for children and adolescents who are Alexander JFS clients.
Alexander JFS provides a variety of mental health programs to inform, educate and prepare students and adults in issues and situations related to mental health crisis or conditions. All of these services and programs help give access to vital healthcare for our clients.
On the agency’s 80th anniversary, this fund was started to encourage Alexander JFS supporters to build an endowment for annual unrestricted funds. At the 100th anniversary, a new group of supporters increased this fund substantially.
Established by Lois and George Stark, a former president of Alexander JFS, this fund provides opportunities professional continuing education for clinical social workers. This fund allows he agency to provide high level trainings for CEU’s that are required for clinical professionals.
